Sage Parents Organizing Resources for our Teams

The California budget crisis has created a new challenge for each school year's young athletes that training and practice can't solve:

There is no money to support the districts after school competitive athletic programs.

Because of a lack of funds at the San Mateo Foster City School District, each school year's competitive sports programs are not put into the district budget. In response, a group of concerned parents started the S.P.O.R.T. Booster Club of San Mateo Foster City about 4 years ago. Our goal was to raise funds to save and improve the competitive sport programs at the four middle schools in the San Mateo Foster City School District: Abbott, Bayside, Borel, and Bowditch.

Here is some background information:For the 2008-2009 school year, the District requires $93,000 to support the competitive athletic programs. But, because of the severe budget cuts, the District does not provide any of required funds. This would leave approximately 800 students without the opportunity to participate in after school sports. However, thanks to the efforts of many community members and parents, donations by the Ed Foundation, and the Competitor Contribution Program, the District could completely fund the sports programs. One of these efforts was the formation of the S.P.O.R.T. Booster Club.

S.P.O.R.T. was created as a fund raising entity so that we can avoid the fiscal crisis that arrives each year. We believe that California's budget crisis will be with us for a longtime, and that to insure a quality competitive sports program for our children, we will have to raise the funds locally. S.P.O.R.T. is an organization much like the P.T.A. We have members and raise funds through membership fees and other fund raisers that will occur through out the year. Our goal is to raise enough funds before each school year so the students can participate in after school sports. Any funds raised will be shared equally by the four middle schools and can only be used for middle school competitive athletic programs.

Please help us in this worthwhile cause to preserve competitive sports at the San Mateo-Foster City middle schools. We know your child has many opportunities to play sports, but we believe that an important part of the middle school is the experience of competing for something larger than yourself, and the pride of representing your school. To help us, please click on the Donate tab, print and complete the form, enclose a check, and mail to the address at the bottom of the form. In the future we will make available online donations for your ease. Thanks for your support. Together we can preserve middle school sports and provide our children with the quality athletic experience they deserve.
